GLOBAL FASHION EXCHANGE

TRAVELS TO LISBON, PORTUGAL!

The Global Fashion Exchange takes place at ModaLisboa – Lisboa Fashion Week, at CCB (Centro Cultural de Belém), on March 11 and 12, in a space that includes several activities: A swap market, a lounge, Dj's, workshops, networking events and artistic installations.

At the swap, which will take place on Sunday, March 12, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the public will be able to exchange pieces that they no longer use, renewing their wardrobes for free, experimenting a sustainable and innovative way of consumption while avoiding textile waste. Press and Ambassadors preview at 4.30 pm.

To access the swap guests must bring at least one item of gently used clothing from their own wardrobe. After the swap we will close the loop by sending the leftover clothes to our partner I:CO, which will recycle them into new products, textiles and housing materials.

Patrick Duffy, founder of GFX, says: “Global Fashion Exchange is excited to present the largest clothing swap event ever to take place in Lisbon. For the first time we are inviting the people of Lisbon to bring clothing they no longer use and give it a new life, with the opportunity to refresh their own wardrobes. Each item will be weighed and added to our current total of 19 tons saved from going to landfills. We're hopeful that the people of Lisbon will enjoy this exciting and fun way to renew their wardrobes and make a difference. Together with Moda Lisboa and CML, we will bring to life our mission of promoting sustainable consumption patterns, through this years theme of "boundless" creativity. This season GFX proudly fuses fashion with art over 2 days at the beautiful Centro Cultural de Belém, with the focus of empowering consumers, igniting change and making a positive impact.”

The Global Fashion Exchange (GFX) was founded in 2013, where it took place for the first time during Copenhagen Fashion Week. It has since grown into an international platform promoting sustainability in the fashion industry through inspiring forums, educational content and cultural events. Hosting clothing swaps in global cities like New York, Los Angeles and Melbourne. So far, the GFX swaps have saved 19 tons of waste from going to landfills. GFX has also been recognized by the United Nations, participating in talks surrounding their 70th anniversary.

Spring Swap with Ethical Writer Coalition + GFX and friends!

The sun is shining and flowers are finally blooming in New York, and that means Spring cleaning is in full swing. But wait - don't toss the contents of your closet just yet! Instead, grab a ticket to the EWC+GFX Spring Swap and get ready for some fashion & fun.

Ladies & Gents, we invite you to come and swap your pre-loved Spring items with those of your fellow, super-stylish New Yorkers. Secondhand treasures are just waiting to be found, and best of all, by swapping before shopping, you help reduce the impact of textile waste as well as  the demand for new materials, all without sacrificing an ounce of style! Thanks to our partners at Fashion Hope, all unclaimed items at the end of the swap will be donated to a safe-house in Brooklyn for women in need of interview-appropriate clothing.

Ethical shopping destinations, A. Bernadette and IMBY will be selling goods at the event while we sip on cocktails made with Owl's Brew organic tea mixers. The first 30 guests to purchase tickets will take home a goody bag stuffed full of discounts from ethical brands like Meow Meow Tweet, StyleLend, Orange Harp, and Zady.

On Saturday, May 14th, drop off your gently-used items at 1pm, grab an organic cocktail, socialize and shop with us before the swapping officially begins at 2pm!
